This venerable winery, which has thirty years of history (long by California standards), has turned out a bevy of new releases. The least expensive Calera Chardonnay is the 2006 Chardonnay Central Coast. Fashioned from fruit grown in seven different counties, and aged ten months in small amounts of new oak, it offers buttery, waxy, honeysuckle notes, medium body, attractive, pure fruit, and a straightforward, uncomplex style. Drink this tasty Chardonnay over the next 1-2 years

An excellent value in California Chardonnay, Calera’s 2002 Central Coast Chardonnay offers a light green/gold color as well as attractive aromas of honeysuckle and white flowers, medium body, little oak, and a pleasant finish. It is ideal for drinking over the next 1-3 years. Barrel samples of the 2002s were all impressive, but these wines are not yet in the marketplace. Approximate ratings include Selleck (92-94), Jensen (90-94), Reed (90-92), Mills (89-91).

The 2001 Pinot Noir Mills Vineyard’s (14.4 acres) medium ruby color is followed by aromas of flowers, sweet cherries, cranberries, and strawberries, medium to full body, outstanding depth as well as ripeness, a broad, succulent texture, and a plush personality. More obviously fruity than the Reed, this attractive 2001 is one of the most forward Pinots from Calera. Barrel samples of the 2002s were all impressive, but these wines are not yet in the marketplace. Approximate ratings include Selleck (92-94), Jensen (90-94), Reed (90-92), Mills (89-91).

The light ruby-hued 2003 Pinot Noir Ryan Vineyard Second Harvest reveals a restrained bouquet of sweet cherries and a hint of strawberries. Its medium body, crisp acidity, Cotes de Beaune-like personality, and well-balanced finish suggest it should be consumed over the next 3-5 years. Barrel samples of the 2002s were all impressive, but these wines are not yet in the marketplace. Approximate ratings include Selleck (92-94), Jensen (90-94), Reed (90-92), Mills (89-91).

ロマネ・コンテの苗木を移植して造ったというカリフォルニアのワインといえば、「カレラ・ジャンセン」ですね。　日本では、「オーパス・ワン」と並んで著名なワインです。　カリフォルニア通の皆さんには、反論も多々御座いますでしょうが、知名度では群を抜いている感じです。
　公開中の映画の影響で、カリフォルニアのピノ・ノワールに人気が集中しております。　私的には、非常にオレンジを感じるピノですが、ロマネ・コンテと比べてどうかと言えば、経験不足でお答えできません。　でも、ロマコンは無理でもジャンセンなら手が届くかも！　稀少なワインですから、お早めにどうぞ

This is a lower-keyed, but still provocative, complex wine with top-flight aromatics, loads of flavor, good sweetness and glycerin, and plenty of red as well as black fruits competing with earth and floral scents. It will not be as long lived as the 2002, but should provide immense pleasure for 10-12 years.
